The film begins with an intense race scene where Sonny Hayes (played by Brad Pitt), a former Formula 1 world champion, comes out of retirement and stuns everyone by dominating the track with his unmatched skill and experience. Against all odds, he wins the race, proving he still has what it takes. After his victory, he leaves for another city, where he unexpectedly runs into his old friend Ruben (played by Javier Bardem).
Ruben reveals that he now owns a struggling APXGP Formula 1 team, and their survival depends on performing well in the 2024/25 F1 season. If they fail, the team will go bankrupt. The team already has a talented young driver, Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris), who isn’t thrilled about Sonny joining, seeing him as a threat rather than an ally.
Once Sonny becomes part of the team, he takes the wheel of their car and immediately points out its flaws to Kate McKenna (played by Kerry Condon), the team’s lead designer. His sharp eye for detail and experience clash with Joshua’s aggressive, instinct-driven style, leading to heated arguments and tension between them. Despite being teammates, their rivalry grows so fierce that it starts costing the team crucial championship points.
Amidst the chaos, Sonny and Kate grow closer, sharing personal stories and forming a bond. Sonny opens up about his past, adding depth to his character and revealing why he initially walked away from racing.
Packed with high-speed action, fierce rivalries, and emotional drama, this film is a must-watch for Formula 1 fans. Brad Pitt delivers a powerful performance as Sonny Hayes, while Damson Idris shines as the fiery Joshua Pearce.
